Harajuku is a common name for the area around Harajuku station, Tokyo, Japan. Harajuku has become increasing known for it’s unique and varied street style, as illustrated in the Fruits magazine.

Dressing Harajuku

Dressing yourself in a Harajuku type style is a fun and creative way of expressing yourself.

  • Pick a style that interests you or that you like.
  • Be adventurous and creative
  • Don't be afraid to try different things till you find something that fits who you are.
  • Modify dresses and skirts, shirts and anything else you can find.
  • Play with make up, maybe add a small design to your cheek, i.e a heart, or scar, depending on the style you are going for.

Harajuku Styles are varied with individuals chacteristics being one of the key aspects of the styles. 

Lolita

Lolita fashion is influenced strongly by Rococo, Victorian-style and Edwardian style fashions. Many harajuku girls dressing in the Lolita style aim to look doll like in appearance with porcelain-esque skin

Cosplay

Short for costume play. Includes dressing up as anime characters, musicians, comic book characters, graphic novels characters, and other performers.  Not only do they dress the part, cosplayers may act out scenes involving there respective characters, behaving in part.

Made popular by those following particular musical groups, from the 80's 90's and today.. Flamboyent costumes, often extreme were worn on stage.
